Kansas trout season kicks off October 15

It's that time of the year again. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will be stocking trout in selected areas and anglers will be offered an opportunity to have some action and good eating.

The trout season runs Oct. 15-April 15. During that season, some waters stocked with trout require a trout permit ($12.15) whether fishing for trout or not, and others require a trout permit only for anglers fishing for trout. Waters are listed on the bottom of this page. In addition, all residents 16 through 64 years old and non-residents 16 and older must also have a valid fishing license. Trout permits are available online or at most license vendors. THE PERMIT IS VALID FOR THE CURRENT CALENDAR YEAR.

Oct 15- April 15 Stocking.

The Kansas trout season runs Oct. 15 - April 15. To view a listing of trout stocking locations in your area, click on the region of the state you will be fishing.

Region 1 - Northwest, Region 2 - Northeast, Region 3 - Southwest, Region 4 - Southcentral, Region 5 - Southeast

After April 15 there still may be some trout in the ponds and lakes around the state. You may trout fish these waters without a trout permit, but the limit of 5 trout a day and 15 in possession is still active. This does not include the waters that are stocked Year-Round.

Year-Round Stocking

Trout fishing at Mined Land Wildlife Area Unit #30 (Cherokee County) and Tuttle Creek State Park Willow Lake requires a trout permit year-round.

LIMIT : The daily creel limit is 5 trout. The possession limit is 15.

Some local governments in areas such as Topeka and Kansas City have their own trout stocking programs. Many of these require a fee, but the state permit is not required. Local city and county recreation departments should have details.
