BASS Announces Milford as Site
of 2008 Federation Nation Championship
November 13, 2007 - Since 1973, BASS has
offered opportunities to amateur anglers to qualify for the Bassmaster
Classic. BASS announced today the tradition will continue with
the 2008 Federation Nation Championship, which will be held at
Milford Lake out of Junction City, Kan.
The three-day event, which will feature television
coverage on ESPN2, will be held Nov. 6-8. Festivities will include
the Bassmaster CastingKids Semifinals.
"Milford Lake will be an exciting new venue
for the BASS Federation Nation Championship," said Don Corkran,
director of the Federation Nation. "It's such a great central
location for our competitors across the country they will
appreciate that. The community already has been wonderful to
work with, and I'm confident that this is going to be a great
event."
The Federation Nation champion receives a Triton
boat package valued at $50,000 as well as a berth in the Bassmaster
Elite Series, the most visible level of tournament fishing. The
tournament is split into six divisions, based on geographic criteria,
with the top angler in each division earning a spot in the Bassmaster
Classic.
At the Federation Nation Championship staged this
past weekend on Florida's Lake Tohopekaliga, Jeff Freeman of
Max Meadows, Va., bested 54 other amateur anglers. Others who
earned Classic berths include Mike Baskett of Salem, Ore., in
the Western Division; Jamie Laiche of Gonzales, La. (Central);
Chris Loftus of Bloomfield, N.Y. (Eastern); South Africa's Richard
Watson (Southern); and Brent Haimes of Mazeppa, Minn. (Northern).
Milford Lake is known as the "Fishing Capitol
of Kansas," where anglers can expect to find largemouth,
smallmouth and spotted bass. Daily weigh-ins at the tournament,
hosted by Junction City/Geary County, will take place in the
historic downtown district of Junction City.
The Kansas state record for smallmouth bass, a
6.68-pound brute, was set on Milford Lake in August 2004.
Sponsors of the Federation Nation include Toyota
Tundra, Purolator, Triton Boats, Mercury Marine, Berkley, MotorGuide,
Lowrance Electronics, Advance Auto Parts, Mustang Survival, Evan
Williams Bourbon, Longhorn and Ramada Worldwide.
Local sponsors of the Federation Nation Championship
