The United States
wins its third Eurobass Cup
Danny Correia
re-takes the title as individual champion and the Frenchman Ampaud
catches the biggest fish
Level of the
European anglers rises while facing the best anglers of the American
circuit
-September 27, 2006- The team from
the United States has won the Eurobass Cup once again.
Three years, three victories, but the feeling passed on by the
European anglers is that of having stepped it up in their form
of fishing. They have faced a group of professionals who
are the best on the American circuit, all having careers full
of world championships, Angler of the Year titles, Rookie of
the Year, victories in hundreds of tournaments and earnings of
more than eight million dollars. In other words, the best
in the world have won by only four points, 14 - 10.
Danny Correia dominated the
individual classification for the second year in a row achieving
a total of 5,055 points compared to 4,635 obtained by the Frenchman,
Bénigne Ampaud, who caught the biggest fish of the tournament,
with a bass weighing in at 1,660 grams fished in the first round.
Points won by the Americans
were achieved by Byron Velvick, FLW World Champion Brent Ehrler,
Rookie of the Year Steve Kennedy, Aaron Martens, John Crews,
Danny Correia, FLW Angler of the Year Anthony Gagliardi, Lee
Bailey Jr. and O.T. Fears III.
Winning points for the Europeans
were achieved by José Luis López, Frédéric
Jullian, Javier Guillén, José Manuel Iglesias,
Bénigne Ampaud, Helder Maia and José Mendes da
Cruz.
On the second and final day
of the Eurobass, competed at the Reservoir of Ricobayo (Zamora),
a good number of fish were caught, but not reaching that of the
first day's catches.
The results of the second
day demonstrated once again the level of the competition as excellent,
with points truly fought for and minimal differences among Europeans
and Americans. A good example is the result obtained by
O.T. Fears III and Bénigne Ampaud, who both competed in
the same boat and achieved 1,430 and 1,335 points respectively.
The best result for the second
day was achieved by Steve Kennedy catching 5 bass and 3,010 points;
followed by José Manuel Iglesias with 2,310 points and
in third place, Danny Correia with 2,190 points.
Individual classification.
Danny Correia once again
dominated in the individual classification with 5,055 points,
followed by Bénigne Ampaud with 4,635; John Crews in third
place with 4,440 points and O.T. Fears III fourth with 4,005
points.
These 24 anglers will compete
again at Ricobayo this Saturday, September 30th, for the Latin
Bass Tournament, but this time with one American and one European
working together as a team. Sixty boats will venture out
on the water at 8:00 a.m. comprised of anglers from France, Portugal,
Spain, and the United States, competing in an event offering
more than 7,500 Euros in cash prizes.
Iberian Week, organizing
body of this event, invites all fishing fans to come out to the
weigh-in at 6:00 p.m.
The award ceremony of the
Eurobass Cup and the Latin Bass Tournament will take place Sunday,
October 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the Trade Fair Center of Valladolid.
In addition, Friday and Sunday,
the anglers of the Eurobass Cup will give fishing technique seminars
at the large aquarium located in Pavilion 2 of the Trade Fair
Center of Valladolid where fishing fans gather to learn from
the best how to confront this modality of fishing.
The Eurobass Cup started its course in 2004 with
the prime objective of promoting the gathering of anglers from
Europe and the United States in a championship of quality and
prestige. The excellent results of the first edition have contributed,
without a doubt, in helping to make the Eurobass Cup public among
professionals and enthusiasts.
The team from the United States is made up of professionals
of recognizable prestige, with excellent sporting careers, as
is demonstrated by the victories obtained, the volume of accumulated
earnings throughout their career, their participation in the
most important tournaments, etc.
The European representatives are not only true
specialists in this form of fishing but rather play an outstanding
role in the promotion of bass fishing in their respective countries
(France, Portugal and Spain)
